Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is an elliptical galaxy, known as both NGC 1340 and NGC 1344, located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Fornax at a declination of -31 degrees.  It is a magnitude 10 galaxy which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years.

I imaged this galaxy because studies have identified potential faint shells in the outer reaches of this galaxy.  I could not see any in my image.  Perhaps more time would be able to bring them out.
